Most people think I’m crazy because I drive to the Chris McMillan salon in LA to get my hair done, but I wouldn’t trust anyone else in the world to do my color. I’ve been going to Justin for almost 10 years now and while I love catching up with him in the chair, one of my favorite reasons for going to him is that my color always lasts and grows out so well. (I only need to get my color done 3 times a year!) In between salon appointments I stay up to date with Justin and his humor through his Instagram. Follow his stories and you won’t regret it…
Justin has now brought his talent to a new side of the business. As Creative Director of dpHUE, he’s helping make quality hair accessible to all. While I was excited to try Justin’s products and support his endeavor, I didn’t realize I’d be such a fan of the line. The combination of his color and products has kept my hair from fading and becoming brassy in between visits.
We spent the afternoon in West Hollywood at the beautifully designed dpHUE house talking color and trying out some of dpHUE’s newest products. So even if you aren’t able to go see Justin for highlights, you can get some tips on your salvaging you color below…
What’s your favorite part about what you do?
I love seeing my clients light up after their hair is colored and styled. I love giving my clients an extra boost of confidence with a fresh new do.
How do you suggest we keep our color last in between treatments?
I always suggest to not over shampoo. This is a common cause of color fade + you loose shine. I always tell my clients to use dpHUE Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse. It replaces your shampoo and conditioner a few times a week, locks in color and leaves your natural oils for amazing shine.
What’s one product we shouldn’t live without!?
Not to always talk about my products…but I tell everyone they need the dpHUE ACV Hair Rinse. It is the only product I use to cleanse my hair and I have see it change some of my clients hair. It should be a staple in everyones shower.
I’ve never heard of a scalp scrub! Why do we need it?
Think about all the products you put in your hair, shampoo, conditioner, styling spray, dry shampoo, hair spray…the list goes on and on. All of that product ends up on your scalp, causing an irritate scalp or even a dry scalp. By deep cleaning your scalp with the ACV Scalp Scrub you will rebalance your scalps pH and lessen irritation.
How do you recommend not letting your hair dry out throughout the fall and winter months?
Good question! I always suggest to use a hair oil daily and Olaplex No 3 once every 2 weeks. My favorite hair oil is from my line, dpHUE Argan Oil Therapy. You can use it right when you get it out of the shower on wet hair or on dry hair to tame frizz. This will keep your hair moisturized and add shine. Olaplex No 3 at home treatment will help build back the strength of your hair. When my clients have dry hair it is usually damaged, as well. Use Olaplex No 3 every 2 weeks to keep your hair strong and moisturized.
What’s your favorite hair trend of the moment?
My favorite hair trend at the moment is a sun kissed blonde. I always want to create hair color that looks super natural and will grow out looking great too. When I color someone’s hair I focus on where the sun would hit their hair and brighten it.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am working on building the dpHUE brand through the dpHUE House. I have created a brand experience studio in West Hollywood that I invite my celeb clients and influencers into to try out our products and experience the brand. It has been a ton of fun thus far and I can’t wait to see where it goes in the next year. Stay tuned!
